Ever since the teenager went smash-happy in the Indian Premier League, fans from India have been posing one question to another: will Team India fast-track Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to the national T20 squad?

Scrolling through Instagram you’d be forgiven for thinking he already was. A spectacular IPL 2026 stint for Rajasthan Royals has transformed Suryavanshi into one of India’s most googled cricketers. His ability to pull and loft sixes at will, combined with a maturity while handling pressure situations, has seen him compared to India’s white-ball greats.
Selectors and former Indian players are now publicly weighing in with their support. News has emerged that the talent could be fast-tracked into India’s T20 side as soon as this year.
Even more impressive is that he’s only 15. Several records in the younger formats have already fallen at Suryavanshi’s feet. During his IPL stint he became the youngest player to debut in the competition. He then went on to become the joint fastest Indian player to reach a century in the league.

Suryavanshi thrilled crowds during IPL 20 with his ramp shots and eye-popping strike-rate against some of the world’s best bowlers. Current Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar recently heaped praise on the youngster’s ability to stay calm under pressure and his general maturity at the crease. Several cricket experts have taken it a step further, labelling him as a “special” or “once-in-a-generation” player.
That said, some experts aren’t convinced India should rush Suryavanshi into the senior team. Past India player Aakash Chopra recently stated that while Suryavanshi shows plenty of skill and talent, he shouldn’t be fast-tracked too soon. Player development, Chopra added, is still key.
True, but it might already be too late for that sentiment. Since bursting onto the domestic scene Suryavanshi has represented India at the A and age-group levels. That run seems like all the experience he needs for some fans who believe his junior call-ups were simply a stepping stone to the national side.
“I think if you see the way T20 cricket is evolving and the way our team is moving, we are looking for match-winners at every cost and if you can do that in three overs or four overs then you are going to be rewarded,” said one IPL commentator when referring to Suryavanshi’s potential call-up.

Indian cricket fans hungry for a young talent to dominate the shorter format might just see their wish. There’s been no official statement from BCCI or the team management if Suryavanshi has been added to India’s T20 squad. But if he continues to impress against the world’s best bowlers, you can bet he’ll hear about it from fans at home.
