Supermodel Heidi Klum gifted her son Henry a red Ferrari F430 for his birthday this past Saturday, Sept. 12. The car seat birthday present comes seven years after Henry made a bet with his stepdad Tom Kaulitz that landed him the sports car worth anywhere between $140,000-$260,000 dollars.
In an Instagram video shared on Instagram, Klum, 53, captured the moment she surprised Henry walking out of their family home with Kaulitz, 37, trailing behind him. Waiting for Henry in the driveway was a shiny red Ferrari with a giant gold bow wrapped around it.
“You’ve been waiting for so many years,” Klum told Henry excitedly in the video.
“Oh my God! Jesus Christ. I don’ t even know what to say,” Henry responded.
“This thing is beautiful. Holy s***! Oh my f****** God, this … is insane. Holy s***, this thing is crazy,” he added.
Kaulitz revealed in the video that he bought the car at an auto show ‘last year’ but had kept it wrapped up in their garage ever since. He reportedly purchased the Ferrari at an auction in Arizona.
“He kept his promise,” Klum told Henry as the pair walked towards the car after his stepfather lost the bet with his son several years ago. “Literally, it’ s what? Seven years ago when you guys said that?”
Henry and Kaulitz made the bet when he was about 14 years old after challenging each other to a game of Mario Kart. In throwback footage also posted on Klum’Instagram story, Henry aged 14 explained the bet himself.
“If I lose Mario Kart, then I can’ t play video games for three months and I have to do a painting of me driving. But if I win, then Tom has to give me a Ferrari when I’ m 21,” he explained in the video.
Fast forward several years and Henry apparently won the Mario Kart challenge. According to reports, Kaulitz who is the guitarist for Tokio Hotel bought Henry the Ferrari F430 at a car auction in Arizona last fall for $152,000.
Produced by Ferrari between the years 2004 and 2009, the Ferrari F430 comes with a naturally aspirated 4.3-liter V8 engine generating about 490 horsepower. It features an aluminum space-frame chassis with technology Ferrari derived from their years of involvement in Formula 1 racing.
In addition to the video, Klum also posted a black-and-white throwback picture of herself and her four children wearing birthday hats.
“Henry WOW. Time flies. We love you sooooooo much. Happy 21 Birthday,” Klum wrote in the photo’ caption.
Henry is Klum’ second oldest child with ex-husband Seal. She also shares two kids with Seal, 19-year-old Johan and Lou who is 16. Klum adopted Seal’ daughter Leni, who is now 22, with his ex Flavio Briatore. Klum married Kaulitz in 2019.
People are raving about Klum’ gift for Henry in the comments of her Instagram post. “This is very sweet and the fact he kept his promise. Say what you mean and mean what you say,” one person wrote.
“WOW!!! Now that’ s a bet🔥 Tom kept his promise for 7 years!” another person commented.
“What a waste of money,” one person commented. “It’ s crazy how rich people spoil their kids.”
“That’ s disgusting parents should teach their kids to work for something. I just think this is why many of these kids end up struggling to understand certain things,” another added.
Tom documented his quest for the perfect gift for Henry on Netflix’ new series Kaulitz & Kaulitz, which followed him and his twin brother Bill as they hunted for the gift. “Now Henry technically still is 20 when we bought the car, so for one year I can drive it myself,” Kaulitz joked on the show.
Henry also opened up about growing up with both Klum and Seal. He told the Daily Mail last year that his parents “are always so supportive of anything I do.” Klum later chimed in saying she is proud of “all of my kids.”
In the interview with People Henry also explained how his parents taught him to embrace his unique style. “Whatever makes you feel good, whatever can make you feel powerful, make you feel like whoever you want to feel,” Klum and Seal told him growing up.
