Clive Davis, one of the music industries most legendary executives and producers, died peacefully at his home in New York City with family around him on June 22, 20 26. He was 94 years old. Davis suffered from health issues related to old age.

The Executive Who Changed American Music
Few music executives ever influenced American music culture the way Clive Davis did. Born in Brooklyn in 1932, Davis grew up fast after losing both of his parents in his teenage years. He graduated from Harvard University and went to law school before quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.
By age 35, Davis was named the president of Columbia Records. From there he developed a knack for spotting musical talent. Davis went on to found Arista Records and later J Records. In his career, he worked with the most iconic musicians across all genres.
Davis discovered and helped guide the careers of Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Carlos Santana, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen, The Notorious B.I.G. and Carrie Underwood to name a few.
The Whitney Houston Connection That Defined an Era
As Davis worked with some of the biggest names in music, there was one singer who he will always be connected to: Whitney Houston.
In 1983, Davis was in attendance when Houston sang as an opener for her cousin Dion Warwick. He was blown away by Houston’s talent and set out to make her a household name. Houston went on to become one of the best-selling music artists of all time. She had dozens of Billboard charting singles and sold over 200 million records around the world. Davis once called Houston “one of the greatest singers of her generation.”
When Houston died in 2012, Davis was heartbroken and later spoke openly about her troubles off-stage.

A Legacy That Will Echo for Generations
When thinking about what Clive Davis will be remembered for, music aficionados will remember his golden touch. Before others could hear it, Davis could spot a talent like no other.
