Shreya Pujari started her musical career by studying jazz voice in Fullerton college in California. Her initial musical education in jazz was the stepping stone to a vast tempera musical journey that would subsequently lead to world folk music and ethnomusicology. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Music at Berklee College of Music where she majored in Mediterranean music and contemporary writing and production. Her time in Berklee saw her experimenting with cross-cultural music styles and also took fieldwork such as a 6 month stay in Valencia, Spain where she studied the traditions of flamenco and Mediterranean music.
Her work is very much devoted to the context of preserving the traditional and native musical culture using the contemporary media. In 2024, she organized and led the Assamese Youth Orchestra in the United States, arranging new versions of Assamese folk songs as well as debuting the group in Nashville. This was an attempt at uniting the first generation Assamese Americans to the culture using music.
Shreya is also involved in San Francisco music scene whereby she performs in multilingual sets that introduce the American audience to folk music around the globe. The majority of her songs have adapted both the eastern and western concepts of music and sound like a world-fusion, which is an outcome of her multicultural life.
In addition to performance, she also gives back to the music industry in a professional manner. Her position at RIVAL since May 2025 as a Music Coordinator involves music licensing, creating playlists as part of film and television productions, and conducting market research to help the company build its catalog and create strategic music placements.
Among her scholarly and cultural experiences is a Fulbright-Nehru research project in the indigenous Assamese music of India. The music of people such as Mising and Rabha tribes is captured in the project in form of field work and in collaboration with the people who had the knowledge of the music. It is the goal to preserve these traditions morally and provide them to the world community with the help of the educational materials and multimedia documentation.
